AI Academy for Kids Lesson 6 of 6 · 8 minutes

Build something with AI

Put it all together with the build loop Harlan uses. Finish the quick check to earn the AI Builder badge.

Mission goal

Use the build loop (ask, plan, build, check, ship) to make something real.

The build loop

  • Ask: say exactly what you want
  • Plan: the AI explains its plan before it touches anything
  • Build: it makes the change
  • Check: you test it yourself
  • Ship: when it's right, it goes live

How Boone Clicker was made

Boone Clicker started as an idea: a clicker game starring Harlan's dog. Codex, an AI agent, built it as a real Scratch project with Boone Bucks, upgrades and five levels. Then Claude, another AI agent, turned it into a player that runs right on this website. A human checked every step.

Your turn: start small

Pick a tiny project: a Scratch game where a cat catches falling stars, a poster for your room, a story with your own characters. Ask an AI to help you plan it step by step, then build it yourself in Scratch. Let the AI explain the parts you don't get.

  • Scratch is free from MIT at scratch.mit.edu
  • Do it with a grown-up
  • Show off what you made (no faces or personal info needed)
Activity

Try it: plan your first build

Fill in this prompt and try it with a grown-up: "I'm learning Scratch. Help me plan a simple game where [hero] has to [goal] while avoiding [obstacle]. Give me 5 small steps and explain each one simply. Don't write it all for me, I want to build it myself."
