AI can make things up

Sometimes AI gives an answer that sounds perfect but is just plain wrong. It might invent a fact, a date or a website that doesn't exist. Grown-ups call this a "hallucination".

How to check

Facts: look them up in a second place you trust, like a library book or an official website
Code: run it and test it. Does the game actually work?
Websites: look at the page on a phone AND a computer
Ask the AI: "Check your own work. What could be wrong with this?"

You are the final check

When Harlan changes his website, nothing goes live until he has looked at it himself. The AI does the fast work. The human makes sure it's right.

Try it: spot the mistake

An AI says: "Spiders are insects with six legs." Can you find what's wrong? (Spiders have eight legs and aren't insects at all, they're arachnids.) Next time an AI tells you a fact, see if you can double-check it somewhere else.
